Newsletter August 6, 2020 - An EURADOS comparison for codes assessing radiation exposure of aircrew using the ICRP-103

06 August '20
EURADOS - Newsletter (2021)

In 2012, EURADOS WG11 on “High Energy Radiation Field” published the report “Comparison of Codes Assessing Radiation Exposure of Aircraft Crew due to Galactic Cosmic Radiation where ICRP-60 recommendations were used for dose calculations. In 2016, the new EC Directive 2013/59/Euratom was published. The directive refers to ICRP-103 recommendations where a new methodology for calculating doses was introduced based on the latest scientific evidence on radiation risks and operational experience. By now, the directive shall be implemented in most of EU member states. EURADOS WG11 takes an effort to compare codes assessing radiation exposure of aircrew using the ICRP-103 recommendations. If you want to participate in this task, please contact Marcin Latocha (Marcin [dot] Latocha [at] seibersdorf-laboratories [dot] at (Marcin[dot]Latocha[at]seibersdorf-laboratories[dot]at)), Seibersdorf Laboratories.

Jobs and vacancies

Radiation Physicist at ELI

ELI (Extreme Light Infrastructure) is a multi-site European Research Infrastructure Consortium devoted to the scientific research using new generation lasers. The radiation protection group at ELI addresses problems related to ionizing radiation, from radiation protection to detector design by means of Monte Carlo simulation (primarily by Fluka). They are looking for a Radiation Physicist with good knowledge of Monte Carlo transport code.

A three-year position soon available in Pavia for radiobiology research

A new position as Junior contract researcher (for the Italian regulation: RICERCATORE a TEMPO DETERMINATO tipo a - RTDa) will be available soon at the Physics Department, University of Pavia, Italy. The researcher will work in radiobiology and radiation biophysics. The Physics Department hosts the RadBioPhys Lab carrying out experimental research in the field.

Candidates must have a PhD and ideally post-doctoral experience in the field. The RTDa contract is for 3 years, renewable for 2 additional years. The application will be published online here.
